Well, it is the last day of being in my 2o's...tomorrow I enter my 30's...wow, I can't believe the day is here. I am excited and scared although everyone tells me the 30's are your best years...so I will embrace it! Turning 30 will bring new and exciting things into my life and with that, a new blog at a new address and a lot more fun! Currently it is in the works and once it is up and running I will be sure to let all of you know. Until then, I will be refocusing myself and my family and looking forward to this new venture! So, I have a fabulous recipe to share with you...

Fresh Tomato Soup
15-20 tomatoes (I used campari, but I'm sure you could use any kind)
1 head of garlic roasted
3 cups vegetable broth
1 onion diced
3 tablespoons organic tomato paste
2 tablespoons dried oregano
2 teaspoons dried rosemary
2 teaspoons dried basil
1 tablespoon dried parsley
1/8 teaspoon red chili flakes
1 packet stevia
salt & pepper to taste
Heat oven to 450 degrees. Cut tomatoes in half and bake in oven on jelly roll pan for 25 minutes.  At the same time you can begin roasting garlic in oven wrapped in foil. Roast garlic for 45 minutes.  While tomatoes and garlic are in oven begin sauteing onion until golden brown in dutch oven. Once color is golden brown, add tomato paste,  vegetable broth and all spices and stevia.  Once tomatoes and garlic are done put half of onion mixture and half of tomatoes in blender. Blend until smooth. Repeat with the rest of the onion mixture and the rest of the tomatoes and roasted garlic.  Then combine both batches back in dutch oven and heat until warm.  Enjoy!
To make it creamier, I added raw goat cheese to each bowl before serving.

This recipe is great! I am doing a detox from this book right now, so I am not eating any breads or crackers, but I'm sure this soup would be fabulous with some crusty bread or a grilled cheese sandwich.

I am loving my Tom's right now! I bought my daughter a pair for Christmas and they look so cute on her. It took me a while to decide which ones I wanted and finally went for the black glitter after seeing them on my cousin. They are so comfy and even better, every time you buy a pair, they donate a pair to a child...so COOL!!! I am trying to figure out what color I want next....as for now, I am walking around in comfort and style!!

Do you have any cans of pumpkin lying around that you need to get rid of? If you were like me and bought enough cans of pumpkin puree to feed an army, then you are going to need a recipe to finish them off...
I made this last week and it was so scrumptious...It is from the Gourgeously Green website. Her book is great too!(*Note, it says to use fresh pumpkin and I used canned pumpkin and it turned out great. Also, I would not use as much red chile flakes as it was pretty spicy. Maybe 1/4 teaspoon instead)....enjoy!!

Creamy Pumpkin Soup with Brown Rice and Swiss Chard

2 tbsp butter

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, finely chopped

1 tsp ground cumin

1/2 tsp red chile flakes

7-ounce pumpkin, seeds and flesh removed, chopped into 1-inch cubes

3 cups chicken or vegetable stock

3 cups whole milk (vegan: soy silk)

Sea salt and freshly ground black pepper

1 cup chopped green Swiss chard, stalks removed

1 cup cooked brown rice

1 tsp ground cinnamon

Melt the butter in a heavy stockpot over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes. Add the cumin and red chile flakes and cook for 2 minutes. Add the pumpkin, stock, milk, and salt and pepper to taste, and bring to a boil. Turn down the heat and simmer for 20 minutes, or until the pumpkin is tender. Purée the soup with an immersion blender until smooth. Add the chard leaves and simmer for 5 minutes. Spoon into warmed soup bowls, add a mound of rice to each bowl, and dust with the cinnamon.

Sarah Bareilles rocked it! Such an amazing show. The venue was gorgeous, her voice was beautiful and she is a pretty funny gal. Can't wait to see her again someday. Raining Jane opened for her and they were pretty amazing too! Sarah (yes, we are on a first name basis now) did a cover of Radiohead's "Nice Dream"...it gave me chills...WOW! Well, now it's back to the mad week before Christmas rush!!

I know, it's been awhile, I do apologize. We actually had a family tragedy on Thanksgiving. My uncle had an anurism and then ended up dying the following Monday. It was a shock; completely sudden. I still can't believe he is gone. So with that, I have been feeling a little unmotivated. Not to mention that I have had a sinus infection for the past 2 weeks, had to throw my husband's company Christmas party and just dealing with the holiday bustle.....which really is nothing compared to the loss of family. I feel a little absent minded. I must say, if I have learned anything from these past 3 weeks, it is that LIFE needs to be taken seriously and that there is no room for useless relationships and that family truly is THE most important thing! You never know when someone could be taken from your life...so cherish those that you have and relish in the memories of those that now watch over you.

So, on another note, here is a picture of my hubby and I from a family photo shoot we did recently...mmm, I love him!
Oh and my son just threw up...lovely...it is going to be a long night, but it is okay because this is what being a mother is all about!!!

Here is the outfit I wore for a day of wine tasting this last weekend. As you can see, I am wearing a lot of stuff from Target...I was going to try and come up with an excuse or justification as to why everything I am wearing is from Target (because it is a little embarassing) but simply put, Target is easy and it is the one place I can stick my children in a shopping cart and bribe them with treats and toys so that I can try on clothes if only for 5 minutes...pure bliss!!! For now on I'll stick to buying stuff online....Oh and yes...I might also add, that my husband made a comment about my socks sticking out of my boots. He said, "is that the style these days?" "I'd like to see a picture of that from a magazine." I said,"ha, yes, it is, I'll show you." So I went and grabbed my latest Urban Oufitters catalog and showed him just who the stylish one is in this family....

Look what I snagged today...only $4.00
I was just at Urban Outfitters earlier in the day and was looking at some similar for close to $50.00
When I saw this one at the thrift store I was so excited, especially after I saw the price. What made the purchase even sweeter was the little old woman that checked me out and how she said what a nice purse it was...she was adorable! Sitting on my new purchase is the current book I'm reading that my hubby bought me at the airport a few months ago. I will only be 29 for 2 more months and he thought of me when he saw the book....what a sweetie! Have you found any stellar thrifted items lately?

About two weeks ago, my girlfriend and I took our 4 kiddos up to Lake Tahoe for 5 days.  We had an absolute blast and made some memories that we'll never forget....

We have been busy bees around here, so I apologize for not getting it together with my blog posts...I do have a lot to share with you, but for now, it is my Halloween costume, as I know you have all been wondering just what I was....the infamous Lady Gaga! I was trying to make the meat costume she wore to this years VMA's but I didn't have the time or manpower in me, so I got this instead with a little help from the girl that babysits my little ones. It was a fun night and I did win 3rd place in a costume contest. I was up against some tough competition at this year's Halloween party! Now to start thinking about next year!!! I hope you all had a Happy Halloween!

A Fall Day in Lake Tahoe

The kids and I and our good friends have been enjoying the week up in Lake Tahoe. It has been gorgeous up here and we are loving the fall colors....I will have more photos and fun from our trip to share next week! It has been a nice calm before the storm of Halloween soon arriving!

This is an image from our beautiful shopping mall that was set on fire last week by a twenty three year old gunmen. They are still doing an investigation as to exactly how the fire started, whether it was from an explosive or not, but it is just so sad! Some stores are expected to re-open this week, but some that had a lot of fire damage, may not open for at least a year...so sad, not just for the fact that we can't shop, but for all the people that have temporarily lost their jobs. It was shocking to see this image from the Whole Foods across the street from the mall and so scary that something like that would happen so close to home....

Kale Chips

I was sick once again with the flu this week...ugh! I think I am finally cured and am getting back into the swing of things....

Anyways, I wanted to share a fabulous, easy and healthy recipe with you...

Kale Chips
1 bunch of Kale washed and dried (stems removed)
Olive Oil
Salt
Pepper
Lay Kale individually out on a cookie sheet. Brush or spritz with a bit of olive oil. Sprinkle salt and pepper on each Kale leaf and bake in oven at 350 for about 30 minutes. Let cool and enjoy!!!

My kids didn't like them too much, but at least they gave it a try!

The Launch

I showcased some of my photography last weekend at a local salon in town. It was a group of four women, (me included) who are all trying to get their businesses up and going. We did a wine and cheese party at the salon with music and raffles...it was a blast!!! I am so blessed that so many of my friends and of course my mom and dad were able to make it! It was a great turnout!!! Did you know I have a website? I bet you didn't. It is still under a bit of construction, but for now, you can get the idea!

I have another pumpkin recipe to share with you...this is one of my favorites and has been in my family for a long time....it is so scrumptious, especially with a Soy Pumpkin Latte or a glass of cold milk!!!

Harvest Loaf Muffins
Mix together:
1 3/4 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon cloves
Beat together:
1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
Then, mix dry ingredients with wet ingredients, plus add:
3/4 cup pumpkin
3/4 cup chocolate chips
Grease pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 20 minutes or you can bake in a loaf pan for 65-70 minutes.

Enjoy!!!!

The Pumpkin Patch

Yesterday, my mom and I took the kids to the pumpkin patch for an afternoon of fun! It was rather warm, but we had fun finding the perfect pumpkin and enjoying all of the other activities there were to do. It was a great change, as I have not been feeling very well. Apparently there is a virus going around that gives you an achy body, a hoarse voice and no energy to do anything...luckily I am starting to feel better except for a little bit of the body aching left. Hopefully I can kick it soon!!!See that pumpkin there on the right hand side? Yes, that is the one we chose...you should have seen my mom and I trying to roll it into the wagon, that deserved a picture....

The pumpkin smoothie

Well, here it is, the first full week of October, so I thought I would share a pumpkin recipe with you. Everyone in line around me at Whole Foods seriously thought I was crazy when I was buying 8 cans of pumpkin. They asked me if I was worried they would run out...I said no, but honestly, yes, I am a little bit scared. You see, when the leaves start changing colors and the air gets crisp, I can't resist anything with pumpkin and let alone baking with it. I know by December, I will be disgusted by it, but for now, I am enjoying the stacks of canned pumpkin in my pantry. For this week, I am sharing a pumpkin smoothie recipe with you...so delicious and the kids gulped it up!!

Pumpkin Fruit Smoothie
1 cup frozen strawberries
2 frozen bananas
3/4 can of pumpkin
1/2 cup rice milk
Blend it up and enjoy!!!

My parents just celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary this last Saturday. They got married when my dad was 19 and my mom was 17 and they are still so happily married. I feel so blessed to have such amazing role models and parents. I love you Mom and Dad

In a nutshell, this was our vacation....
Disneyworld was a blast, but we were truly exhausted after spending the day there. Savanna thought she was a princess being there and enjoyed seeing all of the characters and riding the rides while Rocco snoozed. The beach was so relaxing! We spent our mornings swimming at the pool while enjoying some poolside libations. We all took naps and then enjoyed our afternoons on the beach before heading inside to cook dinner. They had a farmer's market our first day in town which was so exciting and we splurged on all of the local veggies, fruits and of course, fish! My hubby made some mouthwatering meals...yum! We had a great time with family, got to enjoy a little date night and eat ice cream almost everyday!!! It was a fabulous vacation....can't wait to do it again next year!!!

A busy day with pumpkin spice love...

Yes, that is what you think it is....my first pumpkin spice latte of the season. Iced, because it is not quite fall here yet...it is more of an Indian Summer here in Northern California.
You see, today, I will be drinking many of these as we have a long travel day to Florida to see my wonderful in-laws.
Tomorrow we are headed to Disneyworld and then Saturday we head to the beach for a week....pure relaxation (the beach part that is).

I have had the big talk with Rocco about sitting on his bottom as you remember our flight last time...I think he will listen this time!!!

My backpack is stocked with a bunch of movies, workbooks, coloring books, flashcards, snacks (a few pieces of candy to be used as bribery-if needed), my i-pod with some updated "chill" music and of course Breaking Dawn (the last book in the Twilight series) with only 150 pages left to read. I think I am set. I will try to blog in between pina coladas and laying on the beach
(sorry, am I making you jealous?)

Today my good friend Cathy and I went out and took some photos of Rocco and my friends daughter Stella. I had fun, but the kiddos were tired and didn't like all of the stickery weeds (I don't blame them). Cathy got this one of Rocco and I. I was looking up at a bird and I think Rocco was getting ready to blow a kiss....I love it!!! Thanks Cathy!

Doesn't this salad look scrumptious...it was! I ate every last bit of it topped with my favorite Trader Joes Goddess dressing, because you know I am a goddess or at least pretend that I am. I know I always catch myself saying I need to eat healthier, but then I don't feel like making anything healthy. Well, today, this salad took 5 minutes to make...so, no more excuses!!

What I wore...

So, here is my first "What I wore..." You can love it, you can hate it, but I love feedback...
So for my first "what I wore" I need to tell you that I bought these ankle boots about two months ago after seeing them on the cute girl that worked in the Brass Plum section of Nordstrom. I asked her where she got them and she said, "right downstairs in the shoe department." I made a bee-line downstairs to snag these adorable boots....
So I loved them when I bought them, and I still love them, but I just wasn't sure how to wear them. I seriously sat on the internet one night for about an hour googling "how to wear ankle boots"....I know, you're laughing right now, but I am totally serious! The boots intimidated me and I'm sure in the hell not famous, but I had this image in my head of showing up on a magazine as the worst dressed (like what was she thinking when she got dressed today), I could see young girls staring at me and shaking their heads...
And of course my husband looks at me like what are you wearing, because he isn't always up to date on fashion (but that's okay, I still love him to death).
Well, last night (after talking to my kids babysitter last week who is 17 and is in high school) making sure that I wasn't going to make a fashion faux pas, I "rocked" the boots (no not knocked the boots...your dirty little minds). I just held my head high and I wore my little ankle boots. Of course I went out to dinner with two of my long time friends and not one of them said anything the whole night (so in my mind I'm thinking, oh my gosh, they must wonder what I'm wearing)....until right before we are about to leave my friends house at the end of the night, her husband (who is very fashionable himself) says, "I love your boots, the whole outfit looks great." My friends agreed and said "yeah, I would have never thought to wear them with a dress, it is so cute though." I felt redeemed, like oh, I did it, I really am still somewhat hip after two kids. So you can love it or hate it, but I'm just glad I finally had the guts to rock my boots!!! And....I totally owe my babysitter for being my personal fashionista right now...You rock Lizzie!

I've been thinking a lot about HOPE lately. Hope is defined as: to cherish a desire with anticipation. I have become consumed with hope lately as I am hoping for something so much right now. I am not only hoping, but praying about it every night....but then I start to wonder, am I hoping too much that I am not enjoying this moment that I am living in this very minute? My hopefulness has consumed me and it seems as though that is all I can think about lately. When does hope become too much and at what point do you give up hope? Do you ever or do you just keep hoping forever? Believe me, I am very optimistic and try to stay positive, but I really do wonder, is there such thing as too much hope???

Yes, you see it, sitting there among my wallet and a couple of diapers is my first caramel frappacino of the day...yes you heard it, my first of the day. I had another one in the late afternoon to give me that burst of energy I needed to go shopping to find a dress for my cousin's wedding.
You see, I love caramel frappacinos, but usually I have enough self restraint to not drink them but once a month. Well this week I have had one everyday and two today...its the end of the summer and I am frankly just burnt out of entertaining my kiddos all day long (they don't start preschool until after labor day) and its been hot and I have been working out my booty everyday and mother nature called this week and well, frankly, I deserve a little blended delight with whip cream and caramel sauce on top....and yes I licked the lid too and enjoyed every minute of it!!!

We got rid of the cable box today on all of our TV's in the house. We now have an antenna (do you remember what that is?) So that means we only get local channels and with no TIVO (OMG!)
We do have a Roku box and are able to watch Netflix and listen to Pandora via our TV, but our kids are only allowed to watch 1 hour of TV a day. If they can watch no TV, that is even better.
Why you ask?
Well, we found ourselves having the TV on almost all day as background noise and we would let the kids watch it whenever they wanted as to not have a major meltdown. At nighttime after the kids were in bed my husband and I would just watch it to watch it. There would be nothing interesting on, but we would just be staring blankly into the screen. Our neighbors did it a few weeks ago and inspired us. We were talking with them the other night about how WE as parents need to be the role models for our children and show them other alternatives to TV such as reading, painting or just playing. We tend to do what is easiest and that is turn on the TV....so today we listened to the Eddie Veder channel on Pandora and the kiddos helped me clean the house,we read, we did some watercolor painting and they helped me make a smoothie. It was such a simple day, but it had so much more meaning than any other day and now sitting here tonight, I actually feel like I accomplished something. Maybe your reading this now shaking your head thinking I am a crazy person, but honestly, you should try it....you will feel so free....

Last weekend my husband and I took a trip to Pennsylvania. My husband's grandmother passed away on July 4th so we went back to attend her services and have a celebration of her 93 years of life. She was one of the most selfless people I have ever met. She was Italian and was an amazing cook. About four years ago, I got the opportunity to cook with her and learn some of her most delectable recipes. (And no, I will not be sharing any of them...if I did, I would probably be disowned by my husbands family). She will be missed....

While we were in Pennsylvania, my husband drove me around to see the Amish land...oh how I love taking a peek into their lives. Sometimes I think I was meant to be Amish....I mean I love little white farmhouses, I like gardening, I love hanging my laundry out to dry.... and I love their baked goods.....

We drove some more and I couldn't help myself from taking a picture of an Amish house...
Then on our last 2 days, we traveled to Pittsburgh, PA to meet up with some friends for dinner and of course I HAD to go to the Andy Warhol museum before catching our flight back home on Sunday. For years I have only dreamed of going to this museum...and finally I had my opportunity. I had to drag my husband as he is not a huge fan of pop art, but he cooperated and I think actually liked it a bit. We snuck a pic....

This is my cousin's fiance Lindsay. They are getting married in September and last Saturday my mom and I had a bridal shower for her. It was fabulous and so much fun!

Lindsay loves Lemondrops, so I made a huge batch of them and they were a hit!

I really do apologize for my absence...things have been so crazy busy that I seriously can't see straight...I had a minor little surgery, we've had lots of family visiting from Florida and Pennsylvania and went on a camping trip. Between all of that, we have started swim lessons, preschool is ending for the year just to have a week break and then start up again in two weeks with me as the new part time teacher and just trying to keep things sane around the house. I have to get things in order and get organized for the summer before I lose my head. It's all about managing my time....and to be honest with you, I just haven't felt inspired lately and that is what saddens me the most...so I need to get my booty into gear and get inspired and motivated...and to do that, I need to tune into the two little people that inspire me the most!

Well, I have been a bit overwhelmed lately to say the least. Having a four year old's birthday party really took it out of me, plus a photo shoot the day after the party, doctor appointments, oh yeah and did I mention a trip to the emergency room (the second time in one month) for two little stitches on the lip of a little boy...whew...I feel like today my life is coming back to me...so this week, we are going to do a little catching up on posts from the last week.
About a month ago I submitted my newly remodeled kitchen/living room to Apartment Therapy and last week I got an e-mail that they did a post on it...it absolutely made my day..my week, possibly even my year! So..check out the post here.

We had an absolute fabulous time at the Monterey Bay Aquarium this weekend...it was a bit chaotic, but well worth it. This guy was my favorite...

And the seahorses were really cool too. Did you know that the male seahorses are the ones that get pregnant and take care of their babies? They are the only species in the animal kingdom that does that...amazing...wow, I wish I could be a female seahorse...

And then of course the jelly fish were really neat...except for the fact that the room that you could see them in was pitch black and I almost lost my kiddos...next time I'm bringing a flashlight...

And then here you see that yes, that is indeed my kids exploring how waves are made and yes, my booty...my husband had the camera and when I got home to look at all of the pictures, there were about 5 pictures of just my booty...men...so typical...in a room with some of the coolest sea creatures around and yet all they can focus on is the female creatures (although I have to admit, I'm glad it was pictures of my booty and not some other woman's tushie).

I do apologize for totally abandoning all of you out there in blog world...I have just been so incredibly busy and a bit uninspired. I haven't picked up my camera in a whole week (so sad). I also have been spending a lot of time outside getting ready to plant our summer garden. I have been working part time at my daughter's Montessori School a couple days of week, preparing for my daughter's 4th birthday party and have just been trying to take care of my family in the meantime. To say the least, things are crazy, but I love it! But...we did get to escape to Monterey, California this weekend with the kiddos and our good family friends. Today we are headed to the Monterey Bay Aquarium....it should be fun. Pictures from our trip to come on Monday....I hope you all have a great weekend!
On a totally separate not, we got this cute little chandelier from Land of Nod for my daughters room for her birthday. Her room is pink and green...(I will share photos when it is done...we're so close)

2. How do you take care of yourself? I lay on my bed while the kiddos are napping and I read. (Currently it is the last book in the Twilight Series...I'm on Team Edward if you were wondering)

This is my husbands Italian grandmother who is almost 94 years old. My kids call her Momae (which means grandmother in Italian). She just recently lost her eye sight due to an infection in both of her eyes. She saw my daughter when she was just a baby and never got the opportunity to see my son. She now gets around with huge help from my mother in law and by touch and smell. It is amazing to see how much your other senses kick in when one isn't working. As soon as we got to the house to see her, she just wanted to feel my kids heads and faces...it was so sweet. The picture above is of my daughter letting her smell a flower...so sweet. She still has such a strong mind and can still speak Italian. We got the chance to hear her in action when she called her cousin Guisseppe in Italy...it was amazing....

Mother of the year

I have officially won the mother of the year award! Yesterday I flew home with my kiddos while my husband flew to Indianapolis to see the Final Four game. The kids and I flew from Florida to Las Vegas and from Las Vegas home to Sacramento. During the last 30 minutes of the flight, my son flipped forward out of his seat and landed right on the bolt that connects the seats on the floorboard. He cut his head and immediately there was blood everywhere and a lot of it. I was panicked, but hid it well. Luckily there was a retired EMT/Firefighter on our flight who helped calm me down and held ice on my sons head until we landed. Once we landed another EMT came on the the plane to get us while everyone stared at us as we walked by (I wanted to cry). They said he seemed okay and probably didn't need the ambulance, but to take him to the doctor as he might need stitches. I was asked a million questions, one being my sons name. "Rocco" I replied and they said "that's it?" "Yep, that's it, just Rocco." "That's his real name?" they said, "Yes, that's his real name" I said and that was it. After some more questioning, like, "He didn't have his seat belt on?" No...you try holding a 2 year old restrained in a seat belt for 1 hour and 20 minutes....and also the fact, that he can undo it himself. I felt like the worst mother ever. I just wanted to get the heck out of that airport. I was tired, drained and done having people stare at me. After my brother-in-law came to get us, we headed to the ER and Rocco ended up being okay and did not need stitches...thank God! We finally arrived home around 3pm and I seriously got down on my floor and kissed the ground because I was so HAPPY to be home!!! Now he keeps saying "Airplane"...."Hit head"...I'm sure this will be an adventure we will never forget!

We are in Florida now and the weather is amazing...a nice 80 degrees while it's raining back home in California. Yesterday we spent the day at the beach and I couldn't resist my daughter's cute little hiney. We were going to go back today but we all got way too much sun and now are laying here drenched in aloe vera. Now we are headed to lunch at Barbara Jean's (one of my favorite southern restaurants)...just give me sweet tea, red beans and rice and a crab cake and I am one happy girl! Happy Easter!!

A Bakers Dozen...

So, last night, the hubby and I got to go on a date while my sister-in-law watched the kiddos. We did a little shopping first before we went to dinner and I wore some pretty high heels
(only expecting that we were just going to dinner). Anyhow, after walking for about 30 minutes, I just didn't have it in me to walk across the huge mall parking lot to dinner at Beni Hana. I mean c'mon these days, I buy my high heels at Target, not Nordstrom and Target shoes are cute, but not exactly the most comfortable shoes. Anyhow, my sweet, gorgeous husband said "I'll give you a piggy back ride"...."Really" I replied, most pleasantly surprised and he said "yeah" so, he carried me for about a 1/4 mile to the restaurant...I thought, wow, he still is that spontaneous, romantic guy I married almost 5 years ago! (Oh and if you were wondering why we didn't just drive, well, my sister-in-law had the car for the night).

So, while dining at Beni Hana, we met this man and his family.
So now you're probably thinking okay, so what's your point and who is this man? Well, it ends up that this man owns an Artisian, French Bakery right here in Virginia. He gave us a call today to see if we wanted to come by his bakery for a tour and to taste some of his delectable breads and pastries. He is from Algeria which is across the Mediteranean Sea from France. He actually speaks French too. His breads are truly incredible. In fact tonight for dinner we enjoyed his bread with a little picnic in our hotel room with some salami, cheese, olives and marinated tomatoes and artichoke hearts, oh and wine too...yummy..truly my dream dinner!

Spring Breakin it...

We are on spring break...spending half of our time in Virginia and the other half in Florida. We flew all day yesterday and today we spent our day in Washington DC enjoying a day at the Air and Space Museum and the Museum of Natural History. We showed our kiddos where the president, Barack Obama lives and our daughter said, "Oh, he has the same name as Rocco...." "yes", I said, "Barack and Rocco do sound similar" so she basically thinks that her brother and the president share the same name...so don't be surprised if she starts calling him Barack...
Oh and check out this next, picture I snapped of my husband and son...It looks like the monkey is getting ready to attack them and then to the left of them it says "Your closest relatives"...ha, it made us laugh after looking at it...

Spring, Roomates and a Bread Box...

Spring is right in our backyard in the form of a beautiful blooming cherry tree...just in time for our new roomates to move in...yes, you heard it right, new roomates. My brother-in-law, sister-in-law and my beautiful little niece Emma are moving in with us for a few months before they make the big move to Colorado. We will have a full house, but it will be oh so fun!!! I love having people in the house, it just makes me happy and gives me a reason to bake without having to stuff all of those treats into my mouth...oh and on a totally random note, look at this great vintage bread box I found at the local antique store while looking for a shelf for my daughters room...I couldn't resist it in all of its yellow vintageness.....Have a great weekend!!

Hot fun in the city...

Yesterday, I got to spend the day with these two beautiful ladies...my best girlfriends. Ashley (the picture on the top) I've known since high school and Megan I've known since 3rd grade. Megan and I met Ashley in high school and we have all remained friends ever since. Ashley currently lives back at home with her husband (where I live in Northern Cali) after spending many years in San Luis Obispo and then Seattle and Megan now lives in Seattle with her hubby. Megan was on her spring break and flew into San Francisco for the week to visit friends and we got to meet her for the day...so fun and just like old times. We got to just talk and be girls the whole day with the exception of my little man...good food, good friends and good wine make for happy times!!!

I had to snap a few other photos of the city...I how I love it!!! It was so good to be there, especially with nice weather and good friends...
And this was my little man's first time to the city...he fit right in and got compliments on his cool Beatles shirt all around town...too bad he spilled apple juice on the cool Anthro shirt I was wearing....I swear, I did have a cute outfit on earlier in the day...

Yes, as you can see after 9 days of hard work (mostly on my husbands part) the "project" is done!!! We got new antique looking wood floors and a brand new paint job. All the curtains have been cleaned and we are back to our normal life...wahoo!!! The paint is called Impressionist by Ralph Lauren....my husband says it looks like one big Easter egg, but I think it is bright and very cheery...it just puts you in a good mood! I am so glad it is done. We have been waiting for these floors for almost 2 years of living with disgusting, stained carpet. I am loving them and my son celebrated last night by dumping a gallon of milk on the floor too..I guess we all have our own ways of celebrating!

Um, yeah, so have you been to Target lately??? So they now have Liberty of London for Target...I am in love with this line. Above is one of my favorite patterns of stuff they are carrying. Today I bought a quilt and a flower pot..oh yes and my daughter a bathing suit. I had to put down the teapot and coffee mugs and unfortunately the 2 tiered plate that my son broke in the cart (I put it back in the boys department...shhh...don't tell). They have everything from wallets to home decor to clothing...I had to practice some self restraint today...it was hard, but I did it!!! Go check it out!! The project is still ongoing...I will share the results when we are done....can't wait!

Since our lives just aren't busy enough...we decided to get a new dog...that now makes three dogs and one cat...it was either have another baby or get another dog...while I love sweet babies, and the thought of being pregnant again sounded kind of nice... I am completely content with my family of four (humans that is)...so we did it...we got another dog and this time a big dog.
We already have 2 Yorkshire terriers, which are great dogs, but we wanted a dog that we could go camping with and that we could take on walks, go on hikes and run with without having to carry at the end. So, this is Nico. He is a Labradoodle (half lab, half poodle). He will soon be my new running partner and my kids best friend. They have already fallen in love with him. So, sometimes I get so tired of typical girly things...like my daughters underwear (I mean come on, enough with the princesses and Dora the Explorer)...and if you know me, you know how much I hate all of that character stuff on my kids clothes...I mean come on, if you can make cute ones for women, then why not for little girls...besides, their little booties are cuter...so...I made my daughter some real boy shorts underwear...
I bought some boys Hanes underwear and Rit dye in Fuschia. I dyed 6 pairs of underwear, washed them, dried them and then put some adorable little iron on patches on them...voila...cute, girly, funky underwear!

I have been waiting for this day forever...the day that Where the Wild Things Are comes out on DVD.
I unfortunately did not get to see it in the theater as my kids are really too young to appreciate this movie....so this morning, I ran to Target and got the DVD and as we speak I am enjoying it this very moment with my cup of hot tea while my daughter is at school and my son is napping...
It is truly amazing!!! Wow!
And the music is absolutely phenomenal too....

Our little pirate celebrated his 2nd birthday in complete pirate style...
I made Golden Treasure Mac n' Cheese (homemade mac n' cheese), Jewels of the Sea Jello (blue jello with fruit in it), Seaweed Salad (green salad), Octopus Hotdogs, Goldfish crackers and Homemade Pirate Ice Cream cakes...everything was delicious and all the mateys had a fun time! My brother in law even got talked into dressing up as a pirate and reading the book "How I became a Pirate" by David Shannon...It was definitely the hit of the party!!!

Have you ever met my cat? And no, I know what you are thinking, I am not some crazy cat lady. This is the one and only cat we have, plus two little Yorkshire terriers, and yes our cat is bigger than our dogs...I know, crazy.

I've known this beautiful family for quite some time. Lisa was the first friend I made when my family and I moved in 1989. She was my neighbor and brought us peaches when my parents began building our house. Her and I have remained friends for over 20 years...we used to do talent shows together, she was in my wedding, she was the one person who I had to have in the room (besides my hubby and mom) when I gave birth to both of my kiddos...we've been through a lot together! I've known her for more than half of my life! And her husband Shawn I've also known forever. They met in elementary school and have been together ever since. Anyways, I had the opportunity to photograph them last week at their house. Aren't their boys just so darn cute? Jack and Ryder. What a beautiful family!!!

Adventures in Suburbia

No, these are not my bags that are packed this time, but my cousins'...they are getting ready to board a plane for Hawaii in 2 hours...I am the one watching their kids while they are gone. Four kids under the age of four for one week....to some of you that is normal life, to me, who is an only child with only two kids it is an adventure...So far so good...I will let you know how it goes. Wish me luck!!

We met almost 6 years ago in a bar...of all places, I never thought I would meet my husband in a bar. We talked for a week and then went on our first date...I kissed him first and 3 months later we were engaged. A year after that we were married....
He still gives me butterflies when he walks in the room...
I still love it when he wears cologne when we go on a date...
He has given me two little loves of my life....
He always pushes me to pursue my dreams...
He still makes me laugh even when its the same joke I've heard a thousand times...
He is spontaneous....
His smile is contagious....
I love it when old ladies still come up to me and say "You know your husband looks like John Travolta?" I reply, "yes, I know" as if I hear it all the time...but I love it!!!

I remember my mom telling me, "you know I thought I was in love when I married your dad and after 33 years of marriage, I love him more than the day I married him." I never really understood at first, but now, I do...I love my husband so much more than when I married him...it is a different love, a stronger love....and I know it will only get better.

No one ever tells you when you get married that it is going to be hard, but it is...it is one of the hardest things in life, but if you work at it and stay on the same page, it is amazing! My husband and I have learned that we are so much better together than we would ever be apart...

Love may be hard....but it is so worth it!!! Happy Valentines Day!

I never shared with you the most delicious and easy cake I made for my husband on his birthday. It is technically his mother's recipe and he specifically asked me to make this cake...( I apologize to my mother-in-law Ginny if this is not the exact recipe...I was just going off of memory...)

Ice Cream Cake
2 boxes Chocolate cake mix baked according to box recipe in 9" round pans.
2 gallons of your favorite vanilla ice cream molded into two 9" pans .
(coat pans with wax paper, so you can pull ice cream out of pan)
After cake is cooled, cut one cake in half so that you have 3 layers of chocolate cake and stick in individual large ziploc bags and freeze overnight.
The next day after your cake pieces are frozen and your ice cream is molded, assemble your cake into 5 layers (as shown above, starting with cake).
Stick cake back in freezer and freeze about 30 minutes-1 hour
Take cake out and frost with your favorite frosting. (I used whipped cream frosting). Then stick back in the freezer until ready to consume!!!
